Programs and Events

Each year, the United Way of Laurens County offers the following programs and services, made possible through grants and sponsorships. We invite you to join us in making a difference and enjoy being part of the fun!

Bags of Love

Bags of Love is a neighborhood-focused event to let our elderly and shut-ins know that we, as a community, are thinking of them!  United Way and Senior Options collect small gift bags filled with candy, books, pens, lotions, etc. that are handed out during the week of Valentine’s Day to our Meals On Wheels recipients.  This event is an inexpensive way to tell others you care!  Get your family and/or your workplace involved by asking others to collect goodie bags for this event! VITA

Sponsored by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), VITA provides free income tax preparation assistance to individuals and families with a household income of less than $60,000 a year. Tax season for UWLC VITA is all year. Click here for more details on how you can be involved.

Day of Caring

This is an annual event where over 100 volunteers are deployed to local agencies funded by United Way of Laurens County for a one-day beautification event. The date of our Day of Caring is April 11, 2026 and will benefit several of United Way's partner agencies.

School Supplies Drive

Each year, United Way enlists the help of volunteers, students, and teachers to collect school supplies for underprivileged children in our community.  Click here to see how this past year's event went...

Bookbag Giveaway

In 2020, during Covid19, United Way of Laurens County implemented a Bookbag Giveaway. Any child that is old enough to attend school is eligible to receive a bookbag full of items such as pencils, markers, paper, binders, notebooks, scissors, glue, etc. Parents/Guardians are able to drive up and receive one bag per child. For the 2025-2026 school year we were able to provide over 1,500 bookbags full of items to Laurens County children.

Giveaway: July 28, 2026 @ United Way of Laurens County.

Golf Tournament

United Way of Laurens County hosts an annual Golf Tournament to benefit our programs. 2026 Golf Tournament cancelled.

Clay Shoot

United Way of Laurens County holds an annual Clay Shoot. The funds raised from this event go right back into the county and all the programs we provide. During this event we also have a FREE bourbon tasting that comes with a team of 4 and a team sponsorship. Clay Shoot will be November 13, 2026

Community Gardens

United Way of Laurens County is proud to support five community gardens throughout Laurens County, helping increase access to fresh produce while bringing neighbors together through service and community engagement.

Our gardens are located at:

  • United Way of Laurens County
  • Thornwell Charter School
  • Waterloo Elementary School
  • Joanna Christ Central
  • Gray Court

These gardens provide opportunities for volunteers, students, families, and community members to grow fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs while promoting healthy eating, environmental stewardship, and community connection. Produce harvested from the gardens helps support local families and strengthens our mission of improving health and well-being throughout Laurens County.

If you're interested in volunteering, partnering with us, or learning more about our community gardens, please contact United Way of Laurens County. Together, we are growing healthier communities, one garden at a time.
