Bell Federation Center for the Blind

The primary mission of Bell Federation is to reach out to and provide any service that will improve the quality of life for the blind in Laurens County.  The Bell Federation assists the blind in visual aids and appliances, correspondence, making appointments, helping with education, and being placed in rehabilitation programs to get training for job placements.  Counseling and referral services are also offered.

The Boy Scouts, Blue Ridge Council is a Youth Development program to develop character, civic responsibility and leadership skills.  The Scout Reach program is used to ensure scouting experience is available to low-income and special needs children in Laurens County.

Bowers-Rodgers Home for Abused Children

The mission of Bowers-Rodgers is to provide a child abuse prevention program and emergency shelter for abused, neglected, and abandoned children while preparing them for permanent placement.  The Bowers-Rodgers home strives to provide a family like atmosphere while assisting the children in their healing process.  They provide medical, dental, and mental health care.  There is also an onsite mental health therapist and after school tutoring.

LCDSNB is a public, non-profit agency, which serves individuals with developmental disabilities, head and spinal cord injuries, and autism and their families in all areas of Laurens County. Our goal is to offer opportunities for people with disabilities to reach their full potential. All programs are operated in the least restrictive environment and are licensed by the South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs and /or the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control.

Laurens County First Steps sole mission is to get children ages 0-5 ready for school, healthy, and ready to learn.  Services are contracted to expand programs in other agencies such as: Family Literacy Programs, Child Care Training and Professional Development opportunities, on-site mentoring and technical assistance to child care centers, Countdown to Kindergarten, a summer transition program for at-risk four-year-olds going to kindergarten in the fall, and child care scholarships to provide quality care for income eligible families.

The Golden Strip provides financial assistance on Utilities, Medication, Rent, and Food to Laurens County residents who live above Highway 101 (Gray Court / Fountain Inn area) in the upper portions of the county.

Good Shepherd Free Medical Clinic of Laurens County is a non-profit Christian ministry staffed by volunteers who give generously of their time to provide free medical care to residents without private or government health insurance and who do not have the financial resources to afford basic healthcare.  It is the only free medical clinic in Laurens County.

Hospice of Laurens County provides specialized programs to service hospice families and the community at large, such as:  Transitions Program, Watchman Program, Hospice Thrift Stores,  Bereavement Support, Children's Bereavement Programs and more. Hospice is focused on caring for terminally-ill patients and their families in Laurens County.

The mission of the Laurens County Literacy Council is to serve adult students whose skills fall within the ranges of Levels 1 and 2 of the National Adult Literacy Survey. To accomplish this mission, the Literacy Council is committed to assisting students in personal growth and attainment of goals, using volunteers effectively in all areas of the program, improving the quality of life and assisting in the economic development of our county, and research and development of strategies to advocate for improved literacy throughout the Laurens County service area.

Laurens County Mental Health Association

Programs provided by Mental Health America in Laurens County (MHALC) include housing targeting those with mental or physical disabilities.   MHALC has partnered with the Social Security Office to offer a Representative Payee Program to assist in managing Social Security benefits, and allows each payee to develop a budget.  MHALC uses this budget to pay medications, rents, allowances, utilities, groceries, and savings (if applicable).  MHALC also offers a suicide prevention program through the State of South Carolina Mental Health America Office.

The Safe Home provides a comfortable, safe place for our female residents that are fleeing from a potentially violent home and seeking shelter for themselves and their children.  Case management, legal advocacy counseling, support groups, and comunity resources are just a few of the services provided to assist victims of domestic violence.

Laurens Memorial Home for the Aged

Laurens Memorial Home is a 50-bed community residential care facility that dates back to 1859.  The home is a residence facility for ambulatory patients who can still perform most daily activities.  Medicade and private rooms are available.   Care is provided by a staff who operates on the premise "Our residents do not live in our facility, we work in their home."

The Open Door Christian Center, Inc.

The Open Door Christian Center is a facility for men who are homeless and/or are experiencing life altering addictions.  The Open Door also serves the community with the talents and abilities of the men housed there through the Widows and Orphans project.  This project targets the elderly, disabled, and poor who need help with repairs, yard work, painting, carpentry, etc.  The Open Door also offers a recycling service to the businesses in Laurens County by picking up used cardboard, compacting it and sending it to a local recycling center.

Piedmont Wilderness Institute

Piedmont Wilderness Institute (PWI) is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping young offenders in South Carolina to become productive citizens. PWI is a six-month residential facility in cooperation with the S.C. Department of Juvenile Justice to provide academics, outdoors and life skills training. PWI uses William Glasser’s behavior modification philosophy to teach responsibility for ones own choices in life.  The primary mission of PWI is to enable males with a history of delinquent behaviors to overcome their problems to the degree that they may move to a less restrictive community placements with the majority of youths being returned to their families.

Senior Options provides vital services for those in the community who are 60+ years of age.  The goal of Senior Options is to establish a partnership with the community to make sure that all senior adults realize that there is an entity right here in Laurens County that can help them obtain the services needed so that they may enjoy a quality senior lifestyle. 

Senior Options currently operates multiple programs for Laurens County.  Those programs include:  Meals On Wheels, Transportation, Exercise, Adult Day Healthcare, I-Care Counseling, and the Foster Grandparent Program.
