Local initiatives provide much needed help with potential foreclosure challenges.
South Carolina Legal Services has provided free civil legal assistance to the low income residents of Laurens County for over 40 years from offices in Greenville, Greenwood and Spartanburg.
We are all aware of the economic loss, devastation and trauma associated with the foreclosure process-it can take years to heal. SC Legal Services is partnering with the state to unveil a program that can help people avoid foreclosure and lose their homes. Unlike our customary work this particular program is aimed at people who are not necessarily low income they could have lost their job, a spouse, or have incurred serious medical issues in the family that has caused them to have a hard time in paying their mortgage. There is help for such families as shown on the "Avoid Foreclosure" flyer (PDF file).
All of the SC Legal Services Offices have trained staff to help families who might be able to take advantage of this program.
