United Way Donors Do Amazing Things in 2011
12-21-2011
It's the end of the year and most of us are wondering where 2011 went! Did you take time to think about someone else? Maybe someone going through a tough time? Or a child that doesn't have control over the choices made for her? If you donated to United Way you did. You thought about all of those folks and more!
Year round, our agency and our partner agencies have been working hard to make sure that those in need have a place to turn. Just since July of this year, more than 4,000 people were touched by donor investments.
The Bell Federation of the Blind was able to assist more than 70 sight impaired Laurens County residents with small tasks that you and I might take for granted.
The Adult Day Care program at Senior Options offered 705 hours of service to make sure that our elderly neighbors had a place to go during the day while their loved ones worked to provide for the family.
The Laurens County SAFE Home provided services to more than 400 people in search of relief from domestic violence situations. These services are offered to both female and male victims, and they are not all in-shelter services.
Hospice of Laurens County offered more than 150 free days of care to patients dying of cancer. This service allowed these patients to be comforted by loving, caring nurses and family without cuasing additional financial stress to the already painful situation.
The Golden Strip Emergency Relief Agency serviced 357 people with food, 185 households with financial assistance, and 1 family with the opportunity for long-term housing.
The Wellness Program through the Disabilities and Special Needs Board offered more than 40 disabled residents the opportunity to participate in a monthly wellness activity. These activities focus on lowering diabetes and hear disease, while also increasing range of motion and lean body mass.
There are so many more great results from our programs and our partner programs. Click here if you would like to read more of those results!
If you haven't donated yet for the 2011-2012 Campaign, there is still time. Our campaign is a year-round campaign running from July-June. Please note that all donations are tax deductible, so if you would like to donate before the end of the year please make sure you do so.
We thank each of you who have made these statistics possible! You are a superhero to someone right here in your own community! Thank you for choosing to LIVE UNITED!
